Flekkefjordbanen: Draisine Cycling on the Old Railway Line

The Flekkefjordbanen is one of the most enjoyable activities on the south coast. From 1904 to 1990 this 17-kilometre narrow-gauge line connected Flekkefjord with the Sørlandsbanen main line at Sira. Since the railway closed, the track has been preserved for draisine cycling: pedal-powered rail bikes that carry two adults and one or two children.

The ride takes you along fjords, through valleys, and across a mountain landscape, passing through 17 tunnels, the longest of which, Ravnejuvet, stretches 1,174 metres. Helmets are mandatory, and a strong torch is recommended. The round trip takes about three and a half hours with stops. Three daily departures run from April to October. Electric draisines are available for those who prefer less pedalling. Book in advance in high season.
