Dønnamannen is an 858-metre mountain on Dønna whose three peaks form the unmistakable profile of a man lying on his back. According to the legend, he is taking a nap next to the Seven Sisters across the water. The three summits each have a name: Nasen (the Nose), Leppa (the Lip), and Haka (the Chin). Leppa is the highest and the most popular summit, but once you are up there, all three are within reach.

The hike is 4.5 kilometres one way with 858 metres of ascent, which takes roughly three hours up. It is steep, exposed, and only recommended for experienced hikers. After rain, the rock gets slippery, and in strong wind the ridge sections become genuinely dangerous. Locals regularly turn back on bad days, and you should too. This is not a peak where you push through poor conditions.

But on a clear day, the reward is extraordinary. From the summit you can see large stretches of the Helgeland coast: Vega, Lovund, Tomma, Træna, and the De syv søstre are all visible. It is one of the finest panoramic viewpoints on the entire coast.

The starting point is at Sandstrak on the western side of the island, where a large sandy beach with surprisingly blue water makes for a good reward after the descent.
