Just before Sandnessjøen you will see a chain of seven mountains along the coast. These are De syv søstre, the Seven Sisters. Not to be confused with the Seven Sisters waterfall at Geiranger, because the story behind the name is different.
It is possible to hike all seven summits in one go. With 26 kilometres, 3,500 metres of total ascent, climbing sections, and a hiking time of about 18 hours, this is one of the toughest day hikes in Norway. Trolltunga is a piece of cake compared to this. You need to be fit, experienced, and have good conditions. Most people hike individual peaks instead of the full traverse.
The mountains are a defining feature of the Helgeland skyline and visible from far away along the Kystriksveien.
