Ytre Sula

Ytre Sula

20 minutes
To get to Ytre Sula, you take the ferry from Ekrevika on Sula. It is one of Norway's smallest car ferries, and the crossing only takes a few minutes. On the other side, a narrow single-lane road takes you across the island.

There is not much out here, and that is the whole point. Kolgrov, the small settlement on the western side, has a handful of houses and a view straight out towards Utvær and the open North Sea. On a clear day, you can see the lighthouse on the horizon. Remarkably, Kolgrov has fiber internet, which technically makes it a viable spot for remote work, though your colleagues might question your commitment when they hear seagulls in the background of every call.

If you are looking for cafes, shops, or any kind of infrastructure, this is not the place. But if you want to experience what the outermost Norwegian coast actually feels like, without the tourism layer, Ytre Sula delivers. Just make sure to check the ferry schedule, because missing the last one means you are staying the night whether you planned to or not.
