Veiholmen

🎭 Culture Island Nordmøre

Veiholmen

30 minutes
Veiholmen is a fishing village on a cluster of tiny islands at the northernmost tip of the Smøla archipelago. The road out to it is an experience in itself: bridges, landfills, and breakwaters strung together across open ocean.

For centuries, this was a vital waypoint for sailors heading west. Veiholmen offered the last reliable freshwater between the Norwegian coast and the open Atlantic. Fishermen from all over Nordmøre gathered here during the winter cod season, and at its peak the harbour could hold hundreds of boats.

Today Veiholmen is home to a small permanent population and a handful of galleries, cafes, and guest houses. The village hosts an annual coastal culture festival. The exposed setting, low colourful houses against the open sea, makes it one of the most photogenic spots on the Nordmøre coast.
