Sundvollen:

60 minutes
Sundvollen is a small village on the eastern shore of Tyrifjorden where the E16 crosses the narrow strait between the main lake and Steinsfjorden. The location has served travellers since at least 1648, when an inn with a licence to serve spirits was recorded here. When the old Bergen King's Road opened through Krokskogen in 1805, Sundvollen became a natural stopping point.

The village is best known for Sundvolden Hotel, now a large conference centre with 273 rooms. Norwegians associate it with high-level political meetings. In October 2013, Høyre and Fremskrittspartiet negotiated their coalition agreement here after the election, giving the country the "Sundvolden-plattformen" that brought Erna Solberg to power as prime minister. From Sundvollen you can hike up Krokkleiva to Kongens Utsikt, described in our Tyrifjorden entry.
