Skodjebruene, the Skodje Bridges, are historic stone arch bridges built between 1911 and 1919, though the road across them only opened in 1922. The largest of them, Skodjestraumen bridge, spans 57 metres with a clearance of 14 metres above the sea and was the largest masonry arch bridge in Northern Europe when it was completed. The smaller Heggestraumen bridge has a 40-metre span.

The bridges were engineering marvels of their time, built entirely of stone to connect the communities across the straits in Skodje. They served road traffic for over 80 years before being replaced by the modern Straumsbrua steel arch bridge in 2004. The old stone bridges were preserved as cultural heritage monuments.

Today a looped hiking trail runs around the old bridges, offering good views of both the historic stone arches and the modern replacement. The contrast between the handcrafted stonework from the early 1900s and the sleek steel structure beside it tells a story of a century of Norwegian bridge engineering.
