Grønsvik Kystfort sits on the coast near Lurøy. It's one of those places most tourists drive past without knowing what they're missing.
This is a German coastal fortress from World War Two. The Nazis built it during their occupation of Norway to defend against Allied attacks from the sea.
You can still see the concrete bunkers and gun positions they constructed between 1940 and 1945. After the war ended, Norwegian forces demolished parts of the fortress. But enough remains to give you a real sense of what it was like.
The concrete structures are surprisingly well-preserved considering they're over 75 years old. The setting is quite dramatic. The fortress overlooks the open sea, which explains why the Germans chose this spot.
You can walk around the ruins freely. There are information boards in Norwegian and English explaining what each section was used for. Be aware that there are no facilities here. It's basically just the ruins and some walking paths. The terrain can be uneven, so watch your footing.
