Eydehavn Museum documents the industrial heritage of a purpose-built company town east of Arendal. Eydehavn grew up around Det Norske Nitridaktieselskap, a nitrogen and aluminium smelter established in 1912 that exploited cheap hydroelectric power from Arendals Fossekompani. The factory attracted hundreds of workers and their families, and the company built housing, a school, a co-op store and recreational facilities, creating a self-contained community on what had been open coastline. The museum, housed in original industrial-era buildings, preserves photographs, tools and everyday objects from the factory and the town, telling the story of how electro-chemical industry transformed rural southern Norway in the early twentieth century.
