Lillesand is one of the prettiest of the Sørland white towns: a compact harbour ringed by white-painted wooden houses, with over a thousand islands and reefs offshore. It sits halfway between Kristiansand and Arendal and is the starting point for boat trips through the Blindleia, the sheltered inner waterway that threads between the islands. The town centre is small enough to walk in half an hour but pleasant enough to linger longer, particularly in summer when the harbour comes alive.
