Arnafjorden is a side arm of the Sognefjorden, about 20 kilometres west of Vik. The fjord is known for its waterfalls, and the mountains around it serve as a gateway to the Stølsheimen hiking area.
About 70 households are spread across three small settlements around the fjord. Most people here are farmers. There used to be a shop, a post office, and a steamship stop, but those are gone now. What remains is a church site that has had a building on it since the 1100s. The earliest written record dates to 1340, but the first church was probably a wooden stave church built two centuries before that.
Arnafjorden is the kind of place that has been quietly losing population for decades but still holds on. It is not set up for tourists, which is part of what makes it worth a visit if you have time.
