Åkrasanden on the west coast of Karmøy has been voted Norway's most beautiful beach several times. White sand, turquoise water, and a Blue Flag eco-label. It looks like the Caribbean. It does not feel like it.
The beach is actually a stretch of eight smaller beaches side by side, making it the largest beach area on Karmøy. The sand is fine and white, and the water is clear but cold, even in summer. It is child-friendly with a gentle slope into the water. Besides swimming, the area is popular for kiting and coastal walks.
On hot summer days this is one of the best spots in the Haugesund region. On a grey and windy day, which is more common than anyone here will admit, you will have the beach mostly to yourself. The wind from the North Sea can be strong.
There is parking near the beach and basic facilities. Åkrasanden is located near Åkrehamn, roughly halfway down the west side of Karmøy, between Haugesund and Skudeneshavn.
