Above Nordfjordeid there is a viewpoint with the wonderfully unimaginative name Utsikten, which just means The Viewpoint. It does what it says.
To get there, drive to the end of Fossevegen and park. Do not put Utsikten in your navigation system. It will try to take you to the nearest street, which is nowhere near the starting point. From the parking, follow the path. After a couple of hundred metres you pass the water processing plant, then continue on a flat trail through the forest. Along the way you will see the ruins of a shooting range, part of the old military exercise ground that dates back to the 1600s, the oldest in Norway.
At the viewpoint there is a shelter and fireplaces if you want to barbecue. The view looks out over the town, the fjord, and the mountains. Many of the hiking trails in the area start from the same place, so if you want to extend the walk, the options are there.
