Solberggruva is a historic iron mine connected to Næs Jernverksmuseum, one of southern Norway's best-preserved ironworks estates. The mine supplied ore to Næs Jernverk from the early 1700s, feeding blast furnaces that produced iron for tools, stoves and cannons during Norway's industrial rise. Underground galleries were cut by hand into the bedrock, and the mine operated until the ironworks closed in 1959 after more than two centuries of production. Today the mine and surrounding ironworks grounds are preserved as a museum, with the manor house, workers' quarters and industrial buildings offering a window into the social hierarchy of a Norwegian iron-producing community.
