Ryganfossen drops 55 to 56 metres on the Lyngsana river in Hjelmeland and is widely considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Rogaland. Also known locally as Rykandfossen, the free-falling cascade sits in a landscape of old farmland and mountain pastures between Årdal and Songesand on Lysefjorden. The trailhead is at the same parking lot at Nes as for Hiafossen; the path branches right after about 500 metres, following red trail markers. The round trip is 4.6 kilometres with 366 metres of elevation gain, taking roughly three hours. An alternative family-friendly route approaches from Ullestad farm via a private gravel road.

The waterfall's flow is entangled with one of Ryfylke's most contentious hydropower conflicts. Lyngsvatn, the reservoir upstream, stores 516 million cubic metres of water for Lyse Energi's Lysebotn power station. In 2009, local farmer Øyvind Ullestad tried to build his own small-scale power plant using his water rights, but Lyse blocked the project by filing competing applications and allegedly manipulating cost estimates. Environmental documents from NVE explicitly note Ryganfossen's 52-metre free fall as an important landscape element directly downstream of a planned water intake, highlighting the tension between industrial water use and preserving a natural landmark.

In winter, the frozen waterfall transforms into a serious ice climbing route graded WI5, attracting climbers from across southwestern Norway. The gorge below the falls can be reached from the Åse farm side, though the approach involves loose rock and heavy spray.
