Lysefjorden

180 minutes
Lysefjorden is a 42-kilometer fjord cutting inland from Forsand to Lysebotn in Ryfylke. The name means "the light fjord," from the pale granite cliffs that line both sides. The fjord is up to 497 meters deep.

This is one of Norway's most visited fjords, mainly because of Preikestolen and Kjerag, the two iconic hikes along its edges. But the fjord itself is worth experiencing from the water. Cruise boats operate from Stavanger year-round, passing sheer cliff faces, waterfalls, roadless hamlets, and the famous Fantahålå cave.

A car ferry connects Forsand with Lysebotn, stopping at Flørli and Songesand on request. This is one of Norway's most scenic ferry routes and one of the few ways to see the inner fjord without hiking.

The fjord was formed by glacial erosion during the ice ages. The pale granite is around a billion years old.
