Rjukandefossen means "smoking waterfall" and you'll understand why when you see it. The Mørkedøla river drops 18 metres in two powerful cascades, throwing up so much spray it looks like smoke rising from the gorge.
It's an easy stop. Parking is signposted along Rv52 near Tuv. From there, a flat forest path takes about five minutes to reach the falls. There's a suspension bridge just below where you can cross and get different angles, though the best view is from the right side.
The water flow is strongest in early summer when the mountain snow is melting. You'll see warning signs near the falls - the currents here are deceptively powerful.
