Raftsundbrua

📍 Landmark Coastal Lofoten

Raftsundbrua

30 minutes
Raftsundbrua crosses Raftsundet between Austvågøya and Hinnøya on the E10. When it opened on 6 November 1998, its 298-metre main span made it the longest concrete cantilevered bridge in the world. The total length is 711 metres, with 45 metres of clearance underneath. It cost 125 million kroner.

The bridge was part of the Lofast project that gave Lofoten a direct road connection to the mainland, completed in 2007. Before that, everyone had to take a ferry. Construction started in June 1996.

This is where the E10 crosses from the Vesterålen side into Lofoten. Or more precisely, into the area that is geographically Lofoten but administratively Hadsel municipality, which belongs to Vesterålen. The border between the two archipelagos is a matter of some local debate.
