Olden is the cruise ship gateway to the Nordfjord. Around 100 ships visit each year, bringing over 140,000 passengers. When those ships are in, the village with about 500 permanent residents is completely overrun. When they are not, the souvenir shops are closed and the streets are empty.
There are five outlet stores in the village centre which stay open regardless. The old Olden Church dates from 1759 and contains elements from an even older stave church. A newer church was built in 1934.
From Olden a valley road goes south to the Briksdal Glacier, about 25 kilometres away. The road to the Kjenndal Glacier goes from neighbouring Loen east along Lake Lovatnet. Kayaking on Oldevatnet is popular, though the glacial water is cold.
