Mikkelparken

180 minutes
Mikkelparken is a family park in Kinsarvik aimed at children aged 1 to 10. It's not a theme park with roller coasters. It's an activity park with heated pools, water slides, electric cars, bumper boats, a train, climbing areas, a petting zoo, and indoor play spaces. The Instanes family has run the adjacent campground since 1950.

The park mascot is Mikkel, a fox. According to local legend, shoes kept disappearing in Kinsarvik - always just one from each pair. It turned out a friendly fox had been stealing them and hiding them in the woods. That story became the park's identity. There's even a puppet show about it.

Reviews are consistent. Parents with young children love it. The pools are popular even in cool weather because they're heated. There's enough to fill a full day, maybe two. The indoor areas work well on rainy days. But older children get bored. Several reviews mention that kids over 7 or 8 find it too young for them. Food in the park is basic and expensive - pizza, burgers, chips. Some visitors recommend bringing your own.

If you're travelling with small children and want a break from hiking and driving, Mikkelparken gives them a day to run around. For teenagers, it won't hold their interest. The park is open during summer season, mainly weekends from late May to late August.
