Lysevegen is the mountain road that connects the highland plateau to Lysebotn at the bottom of the Lysefjord. It drops nearly 900 meters through 27 hairpin turns, including a long spiral tunnel bored through the rock. Driving it is an experience in itself.

At the top sits Øygardstøl, a viewpoint with a café and the main parking area. This is also the trailhead for the hike to Kjerag. The view from Øygardstøl straight down into the fjord is dramatic even if you do not plan to hike.

The road is closed in winter, typically from November to May depending on snow conditions. When it opens, expect slow driving and be prepared to reverse for oncoming traffic in the narrower sections. There is no toll.
