Lista: Flat Peninsula, Big Skies, and 350 Bird Species

180 minutes
The Lista peninsula is Norway's southwesternmost point, a flat, windswept landscape of farmland, wetlands, and long sandy beaches. What makes it exceptional is the birdlife: of roughly 520 bird species recorded in Norway, 350 have been spotted at the Lista bird station, making it the single best birdwatching location in the country. Autumn migration is particularly spectacular as birds from across northern Europe stop to feed before heading south.

The Lista lighthouse, a stone tower from 1836, stands at the tip of the peninsula and houses a visitor centre and birdwatching station. The beaches stretch from the lighthouse towards Lomesanden and are popular for surfing and kiting when the wind picks up. The flat terrain and open skies give Lista a character unlike anywhere else on the Norwegian coast.
