Leknes is the administrative centre of Vestvågøy municipality and the main service town for central Lofoten. It is not a tourist destination in itself, but it is where you go when you need a supermarket, a pharmacy, or a petrol station.
Leknes Airport sits just one kilometre from the centre. Widerøe operates about seven daily flights to Bodø and one to Tromsø with small turboprop aircraft. It is a convenient but expensive alternative to Evenes, which has cheaper fares to Oslo but is a much longer drive.
The town is a good base for reaching Hauklandstranda, Uttakleiv, and the Mannen hike to the north, or Nusfjord and Flakstad to the south. Car rental is available at the airport.
