Laksforsen

💧 Waterfall Valley Helgeland

Laksforsen

20 minutes
Every second, around 700 cubic metres of water thunder over this 17-metre drop on the Vefsna river. Laksforsen is not Norway’s tallest waterfall, but it may be one of its most powerful: a roaring, wide curtain of white water that you feel in your chest before you see it properly.

The Vefsna is one of Nordland’s great salmon rivers, and Laksforsen, the name means ‘salmon falls’, has been a landmark along it for centuries. Atlantic salmon still run this river, and since 2017 fishing has been open below the falls again.

The waterfall sits right along the E6, about 20 kilometres north of Trofors and 30 kilometres south of Mosjøen. It is an easy stop; you can see and hear it from the road. There is a café and small gallery on site.
