Kalvedalen sits at 765 metres above sea level, just down from Beitostølen. It's essentially a smaller version of Utladalen, Norway's deepest valley. The geology here is quite dramatic with steep valley walls and interesting rock formations that attract ice climbers in winter.

Here's something most tourists don't know - this place is actually better when it rains. The wet conditions bring out the colours in the rock and create temporary waterfalls down the valley sides.

Most people avoid it in bad weather, but you'll have it to yourself. The valley offers extreme nature without the crowds of the famous national parks. It's raw and unpolished, which I quite like.
