Jærstrendene: Seventy Kilometres of Protected Coast

180 minutes
The Jærstrendene landscape conservation area stretches 70 kilometres along the coast of Jæren, from Tungenes in the north to Sirevåg in the south. It is a mix of long sandy beaches, pebble shores, and moraine coastline, all protected since 1977. The flat, open landscape under big skies feels completely different from the fjord country just to the north.

The area is designated an international Hope Spot by Mission Blue for its marine ecological importance. Four endangered plant species grow here, and the birdlife is rich. All visits must be on foot; drones are forbidden throughout the protected area. The beaches themselves are among the finest in Norway, particularly Orrestranda and Solastranda, and surfing conditions can be excellent when the North Sea sends in swells.
