Hågåsen coastal battery sits on the island of Hidra, near Flekkefjord. The hilltop was first fortified during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 1800s to guard the approach to the harbour at Kirkehamn. During World War II, the Germans expanded the position significantly, stationing over 100 soldiers here with gun emplacements, bunkers and observation posts overlooking the sea lanes.
Today a cultural heritage trail with nine information signs loops through the battery remains. The walk is easy and takes about an hour, with open views across the Skagerrak.
