Georg Fjellberg monument

30 minutes
This memorial stone honours Georg Fjellberg, a local man who paid with his life for resisting the German occupation.

When Norway was invaded in April 1940, Fjellberg took part in the mobilisation at Røldal. Afterwards he was ordered to take care of several rifles. He hid them in the hills near his home, about a kilometre from here.

The resistance movement in Stavanger eventually learned about the weapons. In 1941, several members of that group were arrested. Under interrogation, the Germans found out about Fjellberg's cache. He was arrested along with 16 others and sent to Oslo in November 1941. The court sentenced him to death.

On 29 December 1941, the 33-year-old Georg Fjellberg was executed at Flatmyr in Nannestad, together with ten other resistance fighters.

After the war, neighbours and friends collected money and raised this stone near his home. From here you have a view over Hjorteland, Fjellberg, and the Ulladalen valley where he once lived.
