Filtvet fyr is a coastal lighthouse on the west side of the Oslofjord, and the only lighthouse in the old Buskerud county.
The first light was lit on 1 September 1840, mounted in the gable wall of innkeeper and tanner Jens Hekleberg's building on the Filtvet peninsula. In 1874, Christiania Harbor Authority bought land at Tangodden to build a proper lighthouse, completed in 1877. The Fyrdirektoratet took over in 1879. The lighthouse was automated in 1985 and listed as a protected cultural monument in 1997.
Today the lighthouse building serves as a summer gallery with changing exhibitions, concerts, and lectures. The beach next to it is one of the nicest swimming spots on this side of the fjord, with white sand and views across the water. You can rent water jets and buy ice cream at the beach bar in summer.
The coastal trail (Kyststien) passes right by the lighthouse, connecting Filtvet with Tofte further south.
