Fagerheim Fjellstugu is a mountain lodge built in 1936. During the war the Germans took it over and put up several buildings here.

Today it's mainly known as a snowkite base. This whole stretch of Hardangervidda is one of the world's best snowkiting destinations - 3,400 square kilometres of treeless plateau with stable winds and a season running from October to May. Every March, kiters from over 30 countries gather nearby for Red Bull Ragnarok, the world's biggest snowkite race. In rough conditions, only a handful of the 300 competitors manage to finish.
