The Eggum to Unstad coastal trail follows roughly seven kilometres of exposed, windswept shoreline along Vestvågøya's northern coast. The route passes through a landscape shaped by the open Norwegian Sea: rocky headlands, grassy plateaus, and dramatic cliff sections with views north toward the Arctic horizon.

Along the way, the Swiss artist Markus Raetz's mirrored head sculpture stands in the landscape, one of several art installations from the Skulpturlandskap Nordland project that dot this coastline. The trail ends at Unstad, famous as one of the world's northernmost surfing beaches. Allow roughly four hours one way. Most hikers arrange a car shuttle between the two villages, or walk the route as an out-and-back from either end. The terrain is uneven and rocky in places with some scrambling required, but no exposed or technical sections.
