Drammens Museum was founded in 1908 and grew into the main repository for art and cultural history across the former Buskerud county. Its permanent galleries at Marienlyst hold one of Norway's finest collections of Nøstetangen glass, the prestigious 18th-century glassworks that supplied the Danish-Norwegian court. Alongside the glass you will find baroque silver, 1700s Drammen faience, period interiors, church art and folk art.

The museum also operates three satellite sites around the city. Austad gård is a stately 1807 classicist residence whose iron columns were cast at Eidsfoss ironworks and whose park survives largely intact. Gulskogen gård offers a grand estate with peacocks roaming its historic gardens. Up on Bragernesåsen, the open-air section (Friluftsmuseet) gathers 21 old timber buildings from Hallingdal and Buskerud, illustrating farm life and building traditions before industrialisation.

In 1867 the Drammen Art Association was established, and from 2004 the museum also manages Holmsbu Billedgalleri with the Henrik Sørensen collections on the Hurum peninsula.
