Bogstadveien is the shopping street in the western part of Oslo, running from the tram junction at Majorstuen down towards the Royal Palace. The lower half of the street is technically called Hegdehaugsveien, but most people refer to the entire stretch as Bogstadveien. It is the street with the tram running through it.

For a long time, this was considered Oslo's best shopping street, with a mix of fashion boutiques, shoe shops, interior design stores and cafes. Then around 2012, the city decided to upgrade the street. The construction lasted for years, and the endless roadwork drove many of the small independent shops out of business. Some never came back. The street recovered eventually, but locals still complain it is not as good as it used to be. That said, it remains considerably better for shopping than Karl Johans gate, which has mostly chain stores and souvenir shops.

Bogstadveien is not a destination in itself for most tourists, but it is a natural route to walk when going from the Royal Palace area towards Vigelandsparken or Majorstuen. If you feel like browsing some shops or stopping for a coffee along the way, this is a pleasant street to do it on.
