Bjørheimsvatnet is the first of two lakes you pass after leaving Tau. The lake sits at 33 metres above sea level and is known locally for its wildlife. The lower part of the lake is Ryfylke's most important wintering area for tufted ducks. The lake also holds good populations of trout and Arctic char, so if you're into fishing, this is worth noting.
The spelling of the name has changed over the years. You might see it written as Bjøreimsvatnet or Bjoreimsvatn on older maps. The mountains surrounding the lake create quite a dramatic backdrop when viewed from Tau.
