Uttakleiv Beach

20 minutes
Uttakleiv is a curved sandy beach on the north coast of Vestvågøy, facing the open sea. Until 1998, the hamlet here could only be reached by a coastal track from Haukland or by boat. Children were sometimes unable to reach school because avalanches blocked the mountain path. The tunnel built in 1998 finally connected Uttakleiv to the road network.

The beach is popular with photographers, particularly for northern lights in winter and midnight sun in summer. The smooth rocks at the water's edge and the curved shoreline make for good compositions. Compared to Hauklandstranda on the other side of the tunnel, Uttakleiv tends to be quieter.

There is a small car park at the beach. The old coastal road to Haukland, now a gravel track, is a pleasant walk and also the starting point for the hike up Mannen.
