Sunnfjord Museum

90 minutes
Sunnfjord Museum is an open-air museum a few kilometres east of Førde, at a place called Movika. The collection is built around 32 antique wooden buildings moved here from farms across inner Sunnfjord. Some of the oldest timbers date back around 500 years.

The focus is on daily life in the 18th and 19th centuries: how ordinary people farmed, cooked, stored food, and managed winter on the narrow shelves of land between mountain and fjord. A full traditional farmstead has been reassembled on the grounds, with houses, a stable, and outbuildings arranged as they would have stood around a working yard.

The museum is open all year except January and has an active programme of events, guided tours, and craft demonstrations in summer. It is a good counterpoint to the modern concrete of downtown Førde, and a quiet place to walk even if you are not particularly interested in the exhibitions themselves. Check the website for current opening hours before travelling.

Weather Tip

The buildings are outdoors and spread out. Better experienced on a dry day.
