💡 Fun Fact Coastal Sunnmøre

Straumgjerde

The village of Straumgjerde sits where the lake Fitjavatnet empties into Sykkylvsfjorden. The river connecting the two is called Straumen, and it is claimed to be the shortest salmon river in Northern Europe. It is not much more than a stream, really. But every summer, Atlantic salmon swim up it to spawn in the lake. Fishing permits are available locally. Just do not expect a long walk along the riverbank.
