Songesand

🏘️ Town Fjord Ryfylke

Songesand

30 minutes
Songesand is a small settlement on the north shore of the Lysefjord, roughly midway between Forsand and Lysebotn. Until 1994 it was only accessible by boat; that year a steep mountain road was built from Årdal over Lyngsheia down to the fjord.

The road is narrow, steep, and has little traffic. From Stavanger the drive takes about an hour and fifteen minutes via Rv13 and Årdal. There is a small camp and café at the bottom.

Songesand has a ferry quay where the Lysefjord ferry stops on request. A few old farmhouses remain, some used as holiday cabins. The village sits on one of the rare flat spots along the fjord, where enough soil collected to support farming. It is a quiet, atmospheric place that gives a sense of what life along the fjord was like before roads and tunnels connected everything.
