Sofies gate 5 is the fictional home address of detective Harry Hole, the main character of Jo Nesbø's bestselling crime novels. The books have sold over 50 million copies worldwide and have been translated into more than 50 languages, making Harry Hole one of the most famous fictional characters to come out of Norway.

This is a real residential building in the Bislett neighbourhood, a quiet area of four- and five-storey apartment blocks near Bislett Stadion. The main entrance is actually around the corner on Dovres gate, where fans have placed Harry Hole's name on the door buzzer. Visitors from all over the world come here to press it. Nobody answers.

The 2025 Netflix series Detective Hole uses a different, taller building for Harry's apartment. In reality, nothing in this neighbourhood is more than five storeys high. But the streets around Sofies gate and Bislett are unmistakably Harry's territory.
