Romsdalsmuseet in Molde, founded in 1912, is one of Norway's largest and most comprehensive folk museums. The open-air section at the former Reknes farm contains over 40 historic buildings, from 16th-century farmhouses to the pre-war town street Bygata showing typical Molde wooden houses destroyed during the 1940 bombing. The modern Krona visitor centre, opened in 2016, houses exhibitions, a cafe, museum shop and a bunad studio making traditional folk costumes from the Romsdal region. The grounds are open year-round for self-guided walks, a ten-minute walk from the town centre.
