Røldal Skisenter

180 minutes
Up the mountain from Røldal village lies one of Norway's most snow-certain ski resorts. Røldal Skisenter claims to have the deepest snow in Europe, and the numbers back it up - an average of 11 to 12 metres falls here each season. The season typically runs from late November until mid-May.

The base station sits at 680 metres, already high by Norwegian standards. Six lifts take you up to 1,300 metres, where the entire resort lies above the tree line. This means no narrow forest trails - you can ski almost anywhere you like. There are around 15 kilometres of groomed slopes across 12 runs, but it is the off-piste terrain that draws the serious skiers. Røldal is considered one of Norway's best spots for freeriding.

Every spring, the resort hosts the Røldal Freeride Challenge, part of the Freeride World Tour qualifying series. For a few days, the quiet mountain village transforms into something livelier.

Cross-country skiers will find almost 100 kilometres of prepared trails in the area, including floodlit tracks at Seljestad.
