Restaurant Schrøder at Waldemar Thranes gate 8 is a traditional Oslo neighbourhood restaurant that has been serving food for decades. It is an unpretentious, no-frills kind of place — exactly the sort of bar where a weary detective would go to drink alone.

Which is why Jo Nesbø chose it as Harry Hole's regular haunt. In the novels and in the Netflix series, this is where Harry sits, drinks and broods. Inside the restaurant, his table is marked with a sign, and the staff are well used to visitors from around the world asking for Harry Hole's spot. When the cast for the 2025 Netflix adaptation was revealed, the press event was held right here.

Schrøder is a working restaurant, not a museum. You can walk in, order food, and sit at the same table as Norway's most famous fictional detective. The neighbourhood around St. Hanshaugen is worth exploring too — it is full of cafés, small shops and local life that most tourists never see.
