Rennebu Church: One of Norway's Rare Y-Shaped Churches

Rennebu church, built in 1669, has an unusual Y-shaped floor plan: three arms radiating from a central point. The idea was to bring every member of the congregation as close to the pulpit as possible. Only four Y-shaped churches survive in Norway, and this is the oldest. The architects Titus Bülche and Ole Jonsen Hindrum designed it to replace a stave church from around 1100 that had fallen apart. The church sits at Voll along the Orkla river, on the old pilgrim road to Trondheim.
