Ravnedalen: A Romantic Valley Garden in the City

Ravnedalen is a narrow valley just one kilometre from Kristiansand city centre, transformed in the 1870s by Colonel Wergeland and his soldiers into a romantic landscape garden. Tall cliffs frame a winding path past ponds, ornamental bridges, and exotic trees: sequoias, beeches, and other species that thrive in the sheltered microclimate of the ravine. A pair of swans on the lake adds to the picture-book quality.

An outdoor stage set against the rock wall hosts concerts in summer. Entry is free. The park connects to Baneheia above, making it possible to combine the two in a single walk.
