Rampestreken is a steel viewing platform that sticks 20 metres out from the mountainside above Åndalsnes, with the last 8 metres hanging in open air over a 537-metre drop. The floor is a metal grid, so you can see straight down through it. It is not for everyone.
To get there on foot, the hike starts right from the town centre. It takes about an hour and a half, and it is steep the entire way. The lower section is forest trail with a lot of exposed tree roots, which can be slippery when wet. Higher up, the path turns into stone steps called Romsdalstrappa, built by Nepalese Sherpas. There are chains and handrails on the trickier sections. Be aware that many people underestimate this hike. It is classified as moderate, but if you are not used to steep mountain trails, you will find it hard work. Bring water and proper shoes.
If you do not want to hike, you can take the gondola up to Nesaksla and walk down to Rampestreken. They say it takes 15 minutes. It is more like 20, and the path is quite steep. Coming back up to the gondola station takes a good half hour. Do not let the short distance fool you. The view, though, is the same either way.
