The hike to Prest is one of the best short mountain walks in the Aurland area. The trailhead is about 2 kilometres past Stegastein, continuing on the Aurlandsfjellet road. There's a small car park on the left, marked with a hiking sign.

The trail is only about 2.5 kilometres each way, but it climbs 550 metres and is steep in places. Allow 4 to 5 hours for the round trip. The path passes Turlifossen waterfall and old mountain farms before reaching the viewpoint at Røyrgrind, 1,363 metres above sea level. Most hikers stop here rather than continuing to the actual summit at 1,478 metres.

The views down to the Aurlandsfjord are impressive for the entire climb. There's a cairn at the top with a guestbook to sign.

The trail can be hard to follow in fog, and slippery when wet. Bring a windbreaker - it's usually breezy at the top. Season runs from early June to October.
