Nappstraumtunnelen is the undersea tunnel on the E10 connecting Flakstadøya to Vestvågøya. It is 1,776 metres long and runs under Nappstraumen, a sea strait with strong currents that made a bridge impractical.
The strait itself is significant. Nappstraumen opens to Vestfjorden on the inner side of Lofoten and is known for good fishing, particularly halibut. The strong water flow through the narrow passage creates a nutrient-rich environment.
