Namsos

60 minutes
Namsos was founded in 1845 at the mouth of the river Namsen, one of the best salmon rivers in Europe. The town was built on timber trade, and in its short history it burned to the ground three times: in 1872, 1897, and 1940. The last fire was a German Luftwaffe bombardment during the invasion of Norway.

The town is not large. It has a small airport and used to have a railway connection to Grong on the Nordlandsbanen, but that line is now closed. Namsos is also known as the cradle of Trøndelag rock music.
