The ferry between Moskenes and Bodø is the main connection between Lofoten and the mainland for drivers who do not want to go via the E10 north. The direct crossing takes about three and a half hours. An alternative route stops at the outer islands Værøy and Røst. The service is operated by Torghatten Nord.

In summer this ferry gets extremely busy. Car spaces sell out days in advance. If you are travelling with a vehicle, book early. Foot passengers usually get on without problems. The ferry terminal at Moskenes has a small heated waiting room but minimal other facilities.

Booking is not mandatory, but strongly recommended in summer, especially if you're bringing a car. Only a portion of the ferry's capacity is reservable. Book online at torghatten-nord.no until 8pm the evening before departure. Arrive at the dock at least 45 minutes before departure if you have a reservation.

How long is the crossing? ▾

About 3.5 hours on the direct route between Bodø and Moskenes. Some departures also stop at Værøy and Røst, which takes longer. Check the timetable for your specific departure.

Can foot passengers travel for free? ▾

Yes, foot passengers and cyclists travel for free without a reservation. If you want a guaranteed spot on a specific departure, you can reserve in advance for a small fee, but only a limited number of guaranteed tickets are available per sailing. Without a reservation, show up early in high season.
