There are many mountains in Norway called Mannen (The Man). This one is on Vestvågøy, north of Leknes, and offers a spectacular view over Hauklandstranda and the Lofoten islands.

Park at Hauklandstranda. You can either go straight up or combine it with a longer walk. The scenic option follows the gravel road along the beach. This used to be the road to Uttakleiv before the tunnel was built in 1998. After about 2 km you pass an island that consists of a single mountain, called Tåa (the toe). Continue to the hamlet of Uttakleiv. Just before the tunnel entrance, a path leads up the mountain on the left. If you do not want to climb, grab a reflector vest from the box at the tunnel entrance and walk through instead. The flat coastal section is easy enough for strollers.

On the mountain path, after one kilometre you pass the small pond Lomtjønna. At the saddle of Hestgreva the path turns right, behind the electricity pylon, and follows the ridge to Mannen. This part is steep and narrow. The ground is mostly dirt, so it is easy to slip.

From the top you look straight down at Hauklandstranda. You can descend the other side of the saddle to loop back to the starting point. The round trip takes about 2.5 hours up and 1 hour down via the short route. Allow 4 to 5 hours total with breaks. There are also trails to the neighbouring peaks Veggen and Himmeltindan.
